Antony Matheson

The funeral service for Antony Matheson, beloved father of Charles, Arabella and Primrose, who died at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, aged 80, was held at St Andrew’s Parish Church and was conducted by The Dean, The Very Revd Tim Barker. The opening music was Durham Town by Roger Whittaker. Included in the service were tributes given by Charles Matheson, son and Allan Hayward. The choir sung Psalm 23 (Brother James’s Air). Arabella German-Ribon, daughter, read from Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo. During a period of reflection, Amazing Grace was sung by Louisa Mace and Helen Macleod followed by the reading, He Is Gone, written by David Harkins read by Piers Chapman-Walker, brother. The closing music was Nimrod from Enigma Variations by Sir Edward Elgar.

The organist, Kate Meakin, accompanied the singing of Be still, my soul: the Lord is at your side, How great thou art, Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy and I vow to thee, my country.

The choir were represented by Louisa Mace, Helen Macleod, Val Campbell, Sue Whalley, Sharon Harvey, Judy Barker, June Le Pelley, John Le Pelley, Robin Le Poidevin and Howard Roberts.

The service was followed by private interment.
